Dr. Eckenrode graduated from the Honors College at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. He remained in Ann Arbor where he attended the University of Michigan Medical School. Dr. Eckenrode completed a one year surgical internship at UCLA Hospitals in Los Angeles, California prior to completing his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Michigan Hospitals. He developed an interest in hand surgery and subsequently completed a one year fellowship in hand and microvascular surgery at the Indiana Center for Surgery of the Hand in Indianapolis, Indiana. During this time he also served as a clinical instructor at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
Dr. Eckenrode joined the Columbia Orthopaedic Group in 1987 and specializes in treating injuries of the hand and upper extremities. He recognizes that oftentimes upper extremity injuries are particularly troubling because they may cause significant difficulties with daily activities. The symptoms may interfere with sports and hobbies and may cause difficulty with occupational activities as well. He strives to provide a compassionate and effective treatment of these often frustrating and debilitating problems, allowing prompt symptom relief and early return to normal activities.
Dr. Eckenrode is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a member of several professional organizations including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association for Hand Surgery.

Dr. Eckenrode and his wife, Dawn, have three children. In his free time he enjoys traveling and playing golf.
